Protection Training and Selection Services
A canine's protective drive is genetic and instinctual. The dog either has it or it doesn't. Within the range of dogs that have "it", some have "it" more than others. Before a dog can be protection trained it must pass a series of selection tests to be considered for protection training. The failure rate is high. Before calling to protection test your dog consider the following:
1. Does the dog come from a genetic tree of dogs that have done protection work?2. Is your dog from a breed that is usually used in protection work?3. Does your dog have an interest in working/playing in any situation and on all types of surfaces? 4. Does your dog show a general suspicion of new people with a character that drives the dog toward the stranger, even as the the stranger closes the distance to the dog (without you in visual sight of the dog)?5. Does your dog ignore loud/suprising noises or recover quickly if startled by them?If your answer is no to most of the above questions, your dog most likely will not pass a selection test. I am very direct on which dogs will and will not make it. I owe it to you as the client to give you a fair and honest answer. You are asking your dog to protect your life and your property. A dog that doesn't have the fortitude to do the job will not be reliable to perform when a crisis happens.
Pricing is as follows: (a mileage fee applies for clients 25 miles from Avella Pa)
Protection selection testing: $25
Protection training: $30 per 1 hr lesson (Includes continual training for trained dogs)
Trained and pre-selected dogs available: Call for pricing and availability
Dogs will be worked with a bite suit and hidden sleeve. Training for each client is suited to the clients needs and all training scenarios for the dogs will be realistic real-world scenarios to maximize learning for the dog.
